The Project
sOX is a network that allows everyone to measure, understand and take back control of their environment. In principle, anyone is able to add data sources to the sOX network, view and use the data.
We have brought together and will share with the world an end-to-end wide and open network into which we and anyone can add sensors which grab and share live sensor readings. The data recorded will be accessible by anyone, either directly, online or via an API.
The sensors would, in general, be very cheap, and would mainly be attached to buildings of community members. They could be built as projects or purchased. They would be owned in general by the individual installing and could be removed by them at any time. In exchange for connecting to sOX, the individual would agree to share anonymised data with SOx users.
We will create a sOX Community Forum driven by volunteers who wish to contribute effort or resources to the sOX project. Blenheim and [others] would act as initial sponsors of the Community Forum.
The network will be self-calibrating i.e. we will find a way to mark sensor results relative to their likely reliability i.e. any sensor can be added but greater value will be assigned to validated sensors and independent moderators from within the Community Forum can do this validation (and higher quality sensors will be more significant).
We would also share live data with other like-minded sites.
